Poor Design Blog Post- March 21

http://www.goodwill.org/

This website practices poor design because the navigation bar is unclear. At the top of the page there’s a lot going on, it’s very cluttered and confusing for users. There’s a lot of links to different pages to click on, and although the site uses drop down menus it’s still hard to find what you’re looking for. The color scheme for the web site is for the most part consistent, except when you start to scroll down. There’s 4 tabs so click on that are four differnet colors that are not consistent with the theme. Lastly, the font styles and sizes are inconsistent making the web site look disoriented.

https://us.shein.com/

This web site practices poor web design as well because at the top of the page it’s very busy. The font size for the navigation bar is very small and when you hover over one of the tabs, a drop down menu comes down and covers most of the screen which is distracting. There’s 2 different navigation bars and underneath are links to coupons and promotions with a huge graphic following that. It looks very overwhelming for users. There’s one huge coupon that stays on the screen as you scroll until you close it yourself, hiding a lot of content. This site also uses various font sizes and styles , overall making the site look unorganized.

Media Query Blog Post- March 7

https://www.cornell.edu/

Desktop Version
Tablet Version
Smartphone Version

The name of this website is Cornell University. The target audience for this website is college students seeking to attend or who want to attend this university. This website uses a responsive web design where the screen fits onto different screens of different devices such as a desktop site, a tablet device and a smartphone device. Some similarities between the different designs would be they all have the same content, and menu options. Some differences would be the way the navigation bar is set up. The tablet and smartphone both have a menu tab you press on and it gives you a list of the different pages to go to, while the desktop has a navigation bar with the different tabs to choose. One way the display has been modified is the way the background picture looks. The background picture on the desktop is the main focus on the screen, while on the tablet and smartphone, because the screen is condensed, the user can see the picture and all the info. Another way the display has been modified is the tablet and desktop both have videos on the main page you can click on, while the smartphone doesn’t.

The website does meet the needs of the target audience in all three devices. All the information is covered in all three devices, just displayed a little differently. One way the website could be improved is if they changed the font color so it’s easier to read against some of the pictures. Another improvement could be to keep the drop-down menu’s design consistent. Lastly, place more important information first when the user is scrolling.

WP Blog Post- February 7

https://www.nike.com/

This site is appealing to me because the graphics are big and eye-catching, it’s clean and not clunky, and the tabs to different pages of the site are easy to locate and read. I would encourage others to visit this site because it is very easy to use and navigate, there’s even a search bar to help you search for what you are looking for.

http://www.freearcade.com/

This site is unappealing to me because the site is condensed on the screen, the graphics are small and blurry, and the links to play a game are underlined which makes the text hard to read. To improve this site I would add better graphics and make the text a little bigger. I probably wouldn’t encourage others to visit this site because it requires adobe flash player and the search bar doesn’t work.

WP Blog Post Assignment- January 28

The site onehappycampernj.org is a site to help families of the greater Metro-West New Jersey find a Jewish summer camp. It is a free resource that allows you to connect to numerous Jewish camps and summer programs. I think the site reaches to its intended audience because it tells users very clear who the site is for and what their mission is. This site is not very useful for me because it’s not my culture.

One interesting fact of issue that this site addresses is how hard is it for Jews to engage and learn more about their culture and beliefs. I would encourage others to visit this site if I knew it pertained to them. The site is very useful, it gives users the opportunity for free advice and gives a detailed list of more than 50 camps. One thing that could help this site improve is if the site allowed the user to type in their zip code so that it could find the nearest camp to the user.

Blog Post Assignment – January 15

My name is Alyssa Gonzales and I am 22 years old. I am going to school for computer information systems and I am almost complete with my double associates. I am currently employed at a resale store called Another Season.

Some sites that have interesting features to me would be

netflix.com

pandora.com

gymshark.com

Netflix’s site is very easy to navigate. I love that I can watch multiple episodes from a certain show, turn it off and go days without logging back on and I won’t lose my place of what episode I left off from. The site also keeps up with what kind of shows you like and you can search by category. The site is very organized

Pandora is another site that’s very easy to navigate. My radio stations I create are on the left side of the screen and on the right is the music I’m currently listening to. It’s very easy to search and find new music. With all the different stations and categories to choose from the site doesn’t look cluttered or confusing. It’s very straight forward.

Gym shark’s site makes shopping very easy. The main page you open up to is a huge cover photo that makes the site very intriguing, At the top of the page are tabs you can click to choose different categories of clothing. The site has a very clean and simple but fascinating look.
